There are variant strains of the Coronavirus. A variant strain means the original strain of Covid has mutated in an attempt to win the war and become immune to our vaccines, according to “Trends in Medicine” newsletter, www.trends-in-medicine.com. A variant in South Africa has emerged that recent studies show is resistant to our current Covid vaccines. This mutation is probably why the United States has issued no travel without restrictions to and from South Africa. So, don’t travel there right now! And if you know anyone that has been there, stay clear.
The University of California, Irvine, is working on a universal vaccine, so the Covid variants are defeated. Also, Nature Magazine has reported there may be “rogue antibodies” in some people that make the infection worse for some than for others. So, we are still fighting this war, even with heavy artillery.
It is still a big question if the Covid vaccines you get will work against the variant virus. So, even if you get the vaccine, you should always wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands. Stay Safe Out There!
